DANCER
* YOU ARE THE LIGHT is about a girl’s journey with disordered eating resulting from body dysmorphia, the dangers she discovered in it, and how she learned to love her body in all its color and beauty. Disordered eating is not an eating disorder. Eating disorders are diagnosable, pervasive disorders with specific qualities that accompany them. Disordered eating is an umbrella term which covers any eating habits that fall outside of what is healthy but do not meet the requirements of specific eating disorders. In no way is this piece intended to show eating disorders or disordered eating as easy to recover from, or to generalize one story or one end as truth for all individuals. This is one story about one person’s journey, and about the joy that can be found in moving away from a toxic relationship with eating and into a healthy love of food and one’s body, recognizing that end as a difficult one to reach. For more information, see the resources provided below.
